When he can find time to get away from Cheetah taming Jon Spurling navigates the Morgan.  Joining the family approximately 17 years after the morgan, he knows his relative position in the hierarchy.

After having worked in the UK Jon decided to try a change of atmosphere in 1998 and moved to Istanbul.  But for a brief interlude consulting in Botswana he has been based in Istanbul since then.  He is currently working for a next generation telecoms provider - Sabanci Telekom - but that is another story.Image

Living in Istanbul causes some problems when it comes to getting involved in the preparation of the car for the rally (problems for the driver that is; Jon is quite happy to give his input remotely) but he does find the time to get back to the UK for things like the rally briefing.

The driver, owner, mechanic and tuner of the Morgan is David Spurling.  He bought the car in 1963 and has lovingly maintained it through to this day, it would not be unfair to say that he now knows it better than any (other) member of his family.  Image

Although the mog was used for hill climbing in the seventies pressure of work meant that David could only start getting involved in serious events from the late 1990s upon his (first) retirement.  However, making up for lost time he has taken part in at least two or three events each year since 1998.

Not content with merely rallying and preparing his Morgan David is the Marketing director of Cambridge Motor Sports, a small company specialising in the preparation of classic and race cars and the supply of specialist classic-race car parts.  In addition to the flat rad +4 he has been known to appear in less arduous events with his Aston Marin DB4 convertible.

Started with a trip down in scorching weather meeting up with the Morgan Club of France annual tour of the Auvergne. Made us very welcome, excellently organised by Wim and Ann-Marie Netelenbos. A superb traditional  local lunch at the Auberge de Bruel at St Illide followed by a visit to a magnificent nearby chateau with a collection of 4000 model cars.
